This survey is based on the above documents and plans with some corrections, additions and notes. It was compared with the 1970's survey by Nottinghamshire Family History Society ‘(NFHS’ in notes) which has some additional information not verified but many omissions.
The main purpose of this survey in 2004/5 was to give the church an accurate as possible plan of known burials in the new part as there was a concern that there were few spaces left as records had not been kept since the mid 1960's. Using information from the burials register, known family histories, information from older residents and ex-residents most burials were located, listed and indexed and the plan redrawn. At the same time the old part was checked and new burials put into the existing plan.
As the purpose was to provide the church with information on burial plots the transcription contains some information not on gravestones, eg: recent unmarked plots. For the benefit of family historians I have included other inscriptions & records inside the church, in the tower and on the bells & clock. Nichols ‘History & Antiquities of Leicestershire’ of 1795 includes some MI’s now gone so these are also listed (‘Nichols’ in notes).
The full transcription will be lodged in both the Leicestershire and Rutland Family History Society research centre and with the Record Office for Leicestershire and Rutland. Enquiries regarding further information from the actual transcription may be made by e-mail through this site.
This index to the survey is an amalgamation of old and new parts but contains no information on burials after 1950, these have been ommitted for this web version as I have no wish to upset living relatives.
